The new release of Ubuntu 24.10 "Oracular Oriole" is an interim release with a support period of 9 months. Support is stated until July 2025.
Alongside Ubuntu, official editions with other DEs have been announced, among which the release of Kubuntu 24.10, transitioned to KDE Plasma 6 technology (shown in the screenshot), is particularly interesting.
Key changes for Ubuntu:
The desktop has been updated to GNOME 47 with a new style for dialog windows, improved performance for low-resolution screens, and completely redesigned open and save file dialogs.
For NVIDIA graphics cards, the GNOME session based on Wayland is enabled by default. To continue using the session with the X server, select "Ubuntu on Xorg" mode in the login manager.
In honor of the 20th anniversary since the first release of Ubuntu 4.10, system sounds and the recognizable design style have been temporarily brought back, along with the anniversary logo.

Transition to KDE Plasma 6 technology has been implemented by default.
The release includes KDE Plasma 6.1.5, KDE Gear 24.08, Qt 6.6, KDE Frameworks 6.5.0.
A session based on Wayland is proposed by default, while support for X11 has been moved to the options list.
