Alma Linux has decided to clone CentOS Stream 10 and introduced a derived distribution codenamed Kitten 10. The installation builds of the distribution are crafted for the x86_64, x86_64_v2, aarch64, ppc64le, and s390x architectures.
Some differences between Kitten and CentOS Stream 10/RHEL 10:
- It was decided to return the builds of Firefox and Thunderbird to the official repositories, from where they can be installed without using Flatpak;
- Parallel builds of packages are provided using AVX and without AVX (x86-64-v2 and x86-64-v3). Thus, unlike the original, CPUs older than Intel Haswell and AMD Excavator will be supported;
- The package base is built with the inclusion of frame pointers, unlike RHEL and CentOS Stream, where they are disabled. The use of frame pointers can degrade performance but can be useful for debugging and profiling.
