Alpine Linux 3.21 has been released, a minimalist distribution built on the Musl C library and the BusyBox utility set. This distribution features enhanced security requirements and is built with Stack Smashing Protection (SSP). OpenRC is used as the initialization system, while a custom package manager, apk, handles package management. Alpine is used for creating official Docker container images and is utilized in the PostmarketOS project. Bootable ISO images (x86_64, x86, armhf, aarch64, armv7, ppc64le, s390x, riscv64, and loongarch64) are prepared in six variants: standard (240 MB), network bootable (258 MB), extended (953 MB), for of virtual machines (63 MB) and for the Xen hypervisor (1 GB).
In the new release:
- Initial support for the Loongarch64 architecture has been added.
- Packages with new versions of graphical environments KDE 6.2, GNOME 47, LXQt 2.1, and Sway 1.10 have been proposed.
- Package versions have been updated, including releases of Linux kernel 6.12, GCC 14, LLVM 19, Node.js 22.11, Rust 1.83, Crystal 1.14, Go 1.23, PHP 8.4, Qt 6.8, .NET 9.0.
