The release of PuTTY 0.82 has been issued, a client for the SSH, Telnet, Rlogin, and SUPDUP protocols, equipped with a built-in terminal emulator and supporting operation in Unix-like systems and Windows. The source code for the project is available under the MIT license.
The new version features improved support for Unicode. Specifically, Unicode is now supported in usernames and passwords entered from the terminal or console, as well as in filenames, command parameters, and usernames specified through the command line and graphical interface. Unicode processing occurs independently of the encoding set in the operating system and in PuTTY settings. For example, special Unicode characters not present in the active system character encoding can be included in passwords.
Other changes include the addition of information about the local socket of the network connection to the event log, including details about the network port number. A setting has been added to disable the paste mode in the terminal that uses escape sequences (bracketed paste). In the SSH agent Pageant for Unix systems, a "--foreground" option has been added to disable process backgrounding.
