The initiative to port the Firefox browser for the Haiku operating system has reached a stage where this port may be accepted into the official project repository.
Through the joint efforts of project participants, various changes have been made to the base system, as well as the compatibility layer with Wayland prepared by the participant x512.
To avoid issues related to Mozilla's trademarks, it was decided to use the name IceWeasel for distributing the browser builds, similar to how the Firefox browser was distributed for Debian in the past.
The reason for releasing the finished port to the general public was to enable media playback and audio output, as well as support for JIT.
It is worth noting that the port is still experimental and has known issues, such as graphical artifacts caused by the imperfections of the Wayland layer, and it does not support certain features like WebRTC.
