Fedora Asahi Remix 41 has been released, designed for installation on Mac computers equipped with ARM chips developed by Apple. Fedora Asahi Remix 41 is based on the Fedora Linux 41 package base and features the Calamares installer. Initially, the Asahi Linux distribution was developed based on Arch Linux, but in 2023 it was transitioned to the Fedora package base, allowing for a focus on reverse engineering and hardware support, with the task of assembling an installable distribution handed over to the Fedora Asahi SIG working group.
Fedora Asahi Remix supports operation on Apple MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, Mac Studio, and iMac systems equipped with Apple M1 and M2 ARM chips. Fully supported features include: the audio subsystem of Apple computers, camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, input devices, USB Type C (USB 3.0), and MagSafe wireless charging. Currently unsupported features include: screen connection via USB-C, Thunderbolt/USB4, microphone, and Touch ID.
KDE Plasma 6.2 is provided as the primary user environment, but an edition with GNOME 47 is optionally available. Both editions use Wayland, and for running X11 applications, the XWayland DDX server is employed. The graphics drivers support OpenGL 4.6 and OpenGL ES 3.2.
