The release of Siduction 2024.1 has been introduced, a desktop-oriented Linux distribution based on the unstable Debian Sid package base. Siduction separated from the Aptosid project in 2011 due to its desire to deliver fresh versions of KDE from the experimental Qt-KDE repository. In turn, Aptosid split from the Sidux distribution in 2010 due to developer conflicts. Available for download are builds based on KDE (3.5 GB), Xfce (2.7 GB), and LXQt (3 GB), as well as a minimalist 'noX' build (1 GB) and an Xorg build (2 GB) for users who wish to create their own working environment. Siduction 2024.1 builds featuring GNOME, Cinnamon, and MATE are not available due to a lack of maintainers (these environments can be installed from the repository).
In the new release, the package base is synchronized with the Debian Unstable repository. Versions of the Linux kernel 6.12, the system manager systemd 257, and the installer Calamares have been updated. Desktop environments include KDE Plasma 6.2 with Wayland set as the default (the previous release used the KDE 5 branch), LXQt 2.1, and Xfce 4.20. Support for the Btrfs file system has been expanded, with the Snapper utility included for managing snapshots, as used in SUSE Linux. The ability to use the systemd-boot loader with Btrfs partitions has been added, in addition to GRUB.
