OpenRC is an init system for Linux systems, supplied as an alternative to systemd in distributions such as Gentoo and Alpine Linux.
The master branch of the openrc repository has been updated with functionality necessary for launching services in a user's session using this init system.
Configuration files and initialization scripts for user services are located in the following directories:
/etc/user/init.d ${XDG_CONFIG_HOME}/rc/init.d /etc/user/conf.d ${XDG_CONFIG_HOME}/rc/conf.d ${XDG_CONFIG_HOME}/rc/rc.conf ${XDG_CONFIG_HOME}/rc/runlevels
All utilities provided with openrc, such as openrc itself and rc-*, have received an additional option —user / -U for working with user services.
These changes are likely to be included in the yet-to-be-released openrc 0.57.
