A stable version of the GNU Coreutils 9.6 basic system utilities suite has been released, which includes programs such as sort, cat, chmod, chown, chroot, cp, date, dd, echo, hostname, id, ln, ls, etc.
Key innovations:
- The cksum utility now includes the ‘-a crc32b’ option for checksum calculations in accordance with the ITU V.42 specification, used, for example, in gzip. - Support for the 'bcachefs' and 'pidfs' FS types has been added to the stat and tail utilities. The command ‘stat -f -c%T’ has been included to output the FS type. In the ‘tail -f’ command, the inotify mechanism has been utilized for the 'bcachefs' and 'pidfs' FS.
- In the wc utility, the minimum size of the block read at once has been increased from 16KiB to 256KiB. When reading cached files, the performance of ‘wc -l’ has improved by about 10%.
