Embox v0.6.5

On January 20, 2025, a new version of the open-source real-time operating system Embox was released.

Embox is designed for embedded systems. The core idea is to use Linux software without Linux. The OS is POSIX-compatible and cross-platform (ARM, MIPS, x86, RISC-V, Microblaze, SPARC, PowerPC, E2K) and supports C++. It supports FAT, ext2/3/4 file systems. Popular programming languages available include Python, Lisp, Java (phoneme), TCL, Ruby, Lua, JS, Scheme.

The OS is written in C, features flexible configurability at the source code level, and is distributed under a dual-part BSD license.

Key Changes:

  • Work has begun on supporting SoftPLC (the ability to develop in the programming languages of the standard IEC 61131-3);
  • support has been added for Ralink SoC;
  • improved support for the domestic RISC-V microcontroller ‘K1921ВГ015’;
  • improved support for C++;
  • added support for the device eeprom (at24c);
  • improved subsystem SPI;
  • improved driver EHCI;
  • improved support for the architecture MIPS;
  • a web server project has been added mongoose;
  • many other fixes and improvements.
