On February 3, 2025, a new version of Ardour, the popular cross-platform digital audio workstation (DAW) with open source code for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows systems, was released. This release is a minor update aimed at fixing a critical bug that hindered workflow on Linux.
The error occurred when working with sessions that used time signature as the main time domain. During operations like time stretching, pitch shifting, or reversing, there was a high likelihood of being unable to reopen the session in the future. Version 8.11 also fixes a bug that caused crashes while using BBT markers in sessions with time signatures other than quarter notes (e.g., 6/8 or 5/8).
Developers recommend all users of Ardour 8.10, as well as maintainers of distributions, to upgrade to version 8.11 as soon as possible. The new version can be downloaded from the official Ardour website as source code, which needs to be compiled, or installed through the stable repositories of your distribution or as a Flatpak application from Flathub.
