The EndeavourOS project has announced the release of a new version of its ISO called Mercury. This release includes numerous improvements and new features that make the installation and use of the system even more convenient and reliable.
EndeavourOS is a distribution based on Arch Linux. It uses the Calamares graphical installer, and installation is available for desktop environments such as Xfce, KDE Plasma 5, GNOME, MATE, Cinnamon, Budgie, LXQt, LXDE, and the i3 window manager. Additionally, there are so-called 'community releases' that include window managers like Sway, QTile, BSPWM, Openbox, and the EndeavourOS exclusive Worm.
Key changes and improvements
- The ISO now includes a memory test for EFI systems.
- Issues with installation on BIOS/Legacy systems have been resolved.
- The desktop environments KDE, Gnome, XFCE4, Mate, Budgie, and Cinnamon now use a dark theme by default.
- Gnome automatically changes wallpapers when switching between dark and light modes.
- The 'replace partition' option has been fixed.
- An issue with double entries in the EFI dropdown list in the installer has been addressed.
- Branding EndeavourOS is now easier to find and use for artists and media.
- Both mirror lists are now ranked before installation and copied to the target disk. If the user changes the mirror list during the live session, these changes will be applied during installation.
- Packages for the live environment and offline installation have been updated, including: Calamares 25.02.1.4-3, Firefox 135.0-1, Linux 6.13.1.arch2-1, Mesa 1:24.3.4-1, Xorg-server 21.1.15-1, Nvidia 570.86.16-3.
The main reason for the delay between the releases of Endeavour Neo and Mercury was not just technical issues, such as the Linux kernel update to 6.13 and Xfce 4.20, but also the personal circumstances of the development team. Specifically, Joe Kampraad is busy training to become a certified programmer, which requires a lot of time and effort. However, despite this, the EndeavourOS team continues to actively work on the project and release updates.
