The release of the EndeavourOS 25.02 'Mercury' distribution has been announced, continuing the development of the Antergos project aimed at providing a straightforward way to install Arch Linux with a selected desktop environment. The desktop environment's components match the original release of the chosen project. The size of the installation image is 2.7 GB (x86_64).
The distribution offers a simple installer for setting up a basic Arch Linux environment, based on Calamares tools. The installation options include KDE (default), Mate, LXQt, Cinnamon, Xfce, GNOME, Budgie, as well as tiling window managers i3, BSPWM, and Sway. Work is underway to add support for the Qtile and Openbox window managers, as well as the UKUI, LXDE, and Deepin desktop environments. One of the project's developers is developing a custom window manager, Worm.
In the new version:
- The Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.13. A new release of the Calamares installer 25.02.1.4 has been utilized. Components of the graphical stack have been updated: Mesa 24.3.4, Xorg-server 21.1.15, and NVIDIA drivers 570.86.16.
- Packages for the Xfce desktop environment have been updated to version 4.20. The theme settings have been adjusted to closely resemble the default delivery.
- The ISO image now includes the Memtest86 utility for memory testing with support for running on UEFI systems.
- Issues with installation on older BIOS systems have been resolved.
- In user environments such as KDE, Gnome, XFCE4, Mate, Budgie, and Cinnamon, a dark theme is enabled by default.
- The option for installation on an existing free partition on the disk has been restored (the 'replace Partition' option). sfdisk and kpmcore are utilized for disk partition management.
