Vifm 0.14

Vifm 0.14

On February 8th, after more than a year and a half of development, the release of version 0.14 of the console file manager took place. Vifm, which features Vim-like modal control and some ideas borrowed from the mail client mutt.

Vifm is written in C and is distributed under the GNU GPL 2 license.
To extend its capabilities, a built-in Lua interpreter can be used.

Change log:

  • Usage of Unicode normalization for sorting and autocompletion.
  • For internal purposes, instead of using environment variables, global variables (g:var) are now utilized, which prevents "polluting" the environment of child processes.
  • The use of :let to call a built-in function while discarding its result has been replaced with the proper command :call.
  • Using the execute 'normal! gl' command to initiate selection now has the :open command as a better alternative.
  • The size of the selection can now be obtained using selected() (in previous versions it required expand('%c') == expand('%f') or an equivalent trick).
  • The macro %{expression} in statusline can now include }, inserted as } (\\ still means two backslashes).
  • Dialogues now recognize keys Enter and Escape as "yes" and "no" responses.
  • The user interface has been improved.
  • The Lua API has been enhanced.
  • Other improvements and bug fixes.
