OpenAI is preparing to begin beta testing a new feature called ChatGPT Connectors. With this tool, enterprise subscribers of ChatGPT Team will be able to link Google Drive and Slack workspaces to ChatGPT. This way, the chatbot can respond to questions based on data from documents, presentations, and spreadsheets stored on Drive, as well as information exchanged during conversations with colleagues in Slack.
In the future, OpenAI plans to expand support for ChatGPT Connectors to other platforms, such as Microsoft SharePoint. "This will allow employees using ChatGPT to easily interact with internal information, similar to how they can access global knowledge through web searches," OpenAI stated.
ChatGPT Connectors represent another attempt by OpenAI to make its chatbot an integral part of the software tools of corporate clients. Not all enterprises and companies are willing to provide ChatGPT with access to confidential information, making it difficult to assess the success of this new feature. ChatGPT Connectors may convince hesitant corporate leadership to change their stance on ChatGPT and present a significant challenge to AI-based corporate search platforms like Glean.
The beta version of ChatGPT Connectors operates on the basis of OpenAI's GPT-4o AI model, which can adjust its responses based on the company's "internal knowledge." The GPT-4o user model searches for and "reads" internal information that may correspond to the user's query. To create a search index, the algorithm synchronizes encrypted copies of the company's files and data from conversations held with users on ChatGPT. servers "Additional related information that the model did not use directly is available by clicking the sources button located under the text of the response. For instance, the chatbot does not support processing images in files on Google Drive, such as Google Docs, Google Slides, etc. The algorithm can only "read" but not analyze data from spreadsheets and Excel books. ChatGPT cannot access personal and group messages in Slack and will ignore messages from bots in Slack. OpenAI promises not to use customer data to train its algorithms.
