The release of the proprietary browser Vivaldi 7.2 has taken place, developed on the Chromium engine by former developers of the Opera Presto engine. Vivaldi builds are prepared for Linux, Windows, and macOS. The changes made to the Chromium codebase are distributed under an open license. The browser's interface is written in JavaScript using the React library, Node.js platform, Browserify, and various ready-made NPM modules. The interface implementation is available in the source texts, but under a proprietary license.
The project aims to create a customizable and functional browser that maintains user data privacy. Key features include a tracker and ad blocker, note, history, and bookmark managers, private browsing mode, synchronization protected by end-to-end encryption, tab grouping mode, a sidebar, a configurator with numerous settings, horizontal tab display mode, and also in testing mode a built-in email client, RSS reader, and calendar.
The new version includes the following improvements:
- The dropdown list of the address bar has been completely redesigned, including search queries, bookmarks, previously entered addresses, and other data.
- The processing of search requests has been optimized domains, which has significantly increased page loading speeds.
- A section for workspaces has been added to the quick shortcut settings, allowing key combinations to be assigned for actions with spaces.
- The keyboard settings now feature a command priority list, which allows the browser to retain specified key combinations even if the site attempts to use them.
- The built-in email client now supports creating tasks or calendar events directly from the context menu of received messages. A manual sorting option for email accounts in the list has been added.
