Hyprland 0.48 composite server is now available, utilizing the Wayland protocol. The project is aimed at a tiling window layout, but also supports the traditional free placement of windows, tabbed window grouping, a pseudo-tiling mode, and full-screen expansion of windows. It offers the ability to create visually appealing interfaces: gradients in window borders, background blur, animation effects, and shadows. Plugins can be connected to extend functionality, and IPC based on sockets is provided for external management. The code is written in C++ and distributed under the BSD license.
Configuration is done through a configuration file, changes to which are applied on the fly without restarting. To enhance gaming performance, there is an option to disable vertical synchronization (VSync) with a frame-damping impulse, used to prevent tearing. Other features include dynamically created virtual desktops; screen element layout modes; global hotkey handling; gesture control on touchpads/touchscreens.
In the new version:
- Full color management support has been added, implemented using the Wayland protocol.
- The implementation of the group bar for managing grouped windows has been improved. Rounded corners have been ensured, and settings for padding, sizes, fonts, and other appearance parameters are provided.
- A new dialog has been introduced that appears when an application hangs.
- Many issues related to buffer synchronization and freezes during rendering on systems with NVIDIA GPUs have been resolved.
- A new window animation style 'gnomed' has been added, reminiscent of the animation in GNOME.
- A new rule toggle for pinned windows has been added.
- The ability to cycle between windows in the order of history of window usage has been added.
- Support for the Wayland protocol ext-idle-notify has been added to track user inactivity.
- Support for launching X11 applications using Xwayland has been improved.
