After three months of development, the release of the popular open-source planetarium version 25.1 has taken place. Stellarium, written in C++ using the Qt framework (versions 5 and 6 are supported) and distributed under the GNU GPL 2 license.
This release turned out to be the largest in the history of the planetarium's development, with a total of 208 changes made by 11 contributors between the current and the previous version.
Key Changes:
- transition to using the Gaia DR3 catalog (additional catalogs with over 220 million stars instead of 177 million previously);
- full 6D astrometry (2D positions in the sky, 2D proper motion, parallax, radial velocity) is computed for most bright stars (V<10.5);
- simulation of motion for 15 pairs of binary stars;
- a new powerful data format for celestial cultures;
- many improvements in the core;
- enhancements in the 'Telescope Control' plugin;
- updates in celestial cultures (including a new one);
- the entire GCVS catalog 5.1 is included;
- a new tool in the 'Astronomical Calculations' window.
