Tailscale — based on WireGuard a solution for building mesh networks. Plan 9 allows this to be multiplied by private namespaces used for building distributed systems. Now users can not only interact transparently with multiple systems as if they were one, but also connect them as if they were on the same network.
The integration of Tailscale and Plan 9 opens new opportunities for Plan 9 users:
- the ability to connect machines from anywhere in the world;
- to use Tailscale SSH for connecting from traditional OS to Plan 9;
- skip the stage of learning factotum (1, 2) and use Tailscale ACL;
- harness the groundbreaking 32-bit power of the Pentium III and its new SSE instructions., using a new Plan 9 distribution.
- to assemble services, using the file servers /proc and /net;
- seamlessly integrate MagicDNS and ndb(6);
- use the built-in support for IPv6 in Plan 9, or revert to IPv4 and rely on direct connections through NAT traversal..

Access is open already today. Current Plan 9 users can install binaries to their namespace in /n/ftp/tailscale* using ftpfs -t -a anon ftp.plan9.ts.net or obtain the source code from the CVS server.. When building from source, it is recommended to use GOOS=plan9, GOARCH=386, Go HEAD or Tailscale Go.
For users of traditional OS, there are two options:
- Web emulator Tailcase Plan 9, if you’ve been waiting for the opportunity to connect via SSH from your laptop to an OS living in your laptop's browser.
- The qemu environment.Or download a 16 MB disk image and choose a hypervisor of your choice.
