The release of the lightweight MX Linux 23.6 distribution has been published, created through the collaborative efforts of communities formed around the antiX and MEPIS projects. The release is based on Debian package base with enhancements from the antiX project and packages from its own repository. The distribution uses the sysVinit initialization system and its own tools for system configuration and deployment. Available for download are 32-bit and 64-bit builds (x86_64, i386) with an Xfce desktop (2.3 GB), as well as 64-bit builds with a KDE desktop (2.9 GB) and builds (1.8 GB) with the Fluxbox window manager.
In the new release:
- Synchronization with Debian 12.10 package base has been completed. Application versions have been updated. As in previous releases, sysVinit continues to be the default initialization system, while systemd can be installed as an option.
- The base package with the Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.1.133. Separate builds with extended hardware support (AHS) are provided with Xfce and kernel 6.14 with patches from the liquorix project.
- The MX Raspberry Pi Respin (RPI) build for Raspberry Pi boards has been updated, shipped with Xfce.
- The Xfce desktop environment continues to be supplied, now updated to Xfce 4.20 release. The mx-system-sounds utility in the Xfce environment implements waiting for sound readiness before playback. server On 32-bit systems, issues with changing wallpaper and desktop settings in Xfce have been resolved.
- The graphical interface for package installationāMX Packageinstallerāhas been improved. Capabilities for working with Flatpak packages have been expanded.
- Privilege requests have been improved in various MX utilities.
- A UEFI Manager utility has been added for managing UEFI settings.
