An experimental branch of the APT 3.1.0 (Advanced Package Tool) management toolkit has been formed, which will be used to prepare the stable release 3.2 after stabilization. The new APT branch will be integrated into Debian Unstable and will not be included in the upcoming Debian 13 release.
Among the new features:
- New commands 'apt why' and 'apt why-not' have been added.
- Options 'Include' and 'Exclude' have been added to .sources files, allowing only specified packages to be downloaded from the repository (whitelist) or certain packages in the repository to be ignored (blacklist).
- Support for HTTPS has been added to the dselect utility.
- For Ubuntu, the dependency resolution engine Solver3 is enabled by default in command-line utilities, which uses a backtracking algorithm to resolve conflicts between dependencies.
