The first issue of the CoMaps project, which develops the fork of the Organic Maps application for offline navigation using OpenStreetMap data, has been published. The release is available for the Android platform in APK format. Work is underway to publish the application in the F-Droid, Google Play Store, and iOS App Store directories. The project code is distributed under the Apache 2.0 license.
The fork is developing in accordance with the principles of openness, transparency, and collaboration. The project focuses on conducting only non-commercial activities, accountability to the community, and meeting community interests. Key development principles for the application include offline functionality, privacy consideration (operating without personal identification and data collection), and effective energy consumption to extend battery life.
Differences between the first release of CoMaps and Organic Maps:
- Use of up-to-date OpenStreetMap data as of May 15.
- Organization of account connection to OpenStreetMap via browser.
- Removal of the translucent background in the layer showing the subway map.
- The server serving metadata has been replaced with a static list servers with maps.
- Information about the size of local maps has been added to the initial loading screen.

- Translations have been updated.
- Rebranding has been completed.
