Nate Graham, a quality control developer for the KDE project, has published his latest development report for KDE. Here are the most notable changes being developed for the KDE Plasma 6.5 release:
- Support for the experimental Wayland xdg-pip protocol (picture-in-picture) has been added, allowing for the proper display of always-visible floating windows with multimedia content, such as the picture-in-picture window in Firefox. The code for supporting the xdg-pip protocol was recently integrated into the Firefox codebase, which is used for the upcoming 141 release.
- In the configuration tool, the settings for inversion and scaling have been moved to the 'Accessibility' page, where they are more appropriate than on the desktop effects page.
- In the screenshot tool Spectacle, a hint has been added about the possibility of ending screen recording by pressing the keyboard shortcut used to start the recording.
- In Breeze styles, effects for click animations on switches in QtQuick-based applications and configuration pages have been enabled.
- The widgets for managing device connections, setting up network connections, and configuring Bluetooth have been converted to the standard section header style.
- Support for rearranging has been implemented when using Wayland virtual desktops via the Pager widget. Rearranging operations in overview mode and the Pager widget are now synchronized.
- In KWin, the interdependent effects of blur and background contrast have been merged — the blur effect now uses the BackgroundContrast shader.
- The emoji selection interface search has been improved — the search field is now permanently displayed, and the search covers the entire set of symbols, not just the contents of the current page.
- In KDE Gear 25.04.3, a crash in the thumbnailer has been fixed, which occurred when using certain widget styles on systems with X11.
