The second candidate for the releases of the installer for the upcoming major release of Debian 13 "Trixie" has been published. The Debian 13 release is expected in mid-July. Currently, there are 136 critical bugs blocking the release, which corresponds to the level observed during the publication of previous releases.
Changes compared to the previous test version of the installer include:
- The wget utility has been removed from busybox.
- In apt-setup, the enabling of cdrom as a source for package installation has been disabled if the installation medium is not a real CD.
- The Linux kernel version has been updated to 6.12.33+deb13.
- The option "--force-overwrite" in DPKG_UNPACK_OPTIONS has been removed.
- Speech synthesis has been improved in accessibility tools.
- In grub-installer, the parameter "force-efi-extra-removable" is now enabled by default to resolve issues with some EFI firmware that incorrectly works with EFI boot variables.
- The installation of systemd-cryptsetup along with cryptsetup-initramfs is enabled in partman-crypto.
- An option has been added for restoring systems with Btrfs installed by the Calamares installer used in some Live builds of Debian.
- In systemd-boot-installer, the shim-signed package is installed on amd64 and arm64 systems to use UEFI Secure Boot mode.
- Support for MTP and SPI keyboards, used in Apple laptops such as the M1 MacBook Pro and M2 MacBook Air, has been added to console-setup.
- The pinctrl-intel driver for Intel GPIO controllers has been added to the udeb with the kernel image for amd64 systems.
