The third installer release candidate for the next significant release of Debian 13 "Trixie" has been published. A week ago, the Debian 13 branch was moved into a complete freeze state before the release, during which any package changes into the Testing branch are halted (exceptions can only be made upon special request and manual review by the release preparation team). The release is scheduled for August 9th.
Changes compared to the previous test version of the installer include:
- The main mirror list has been updated.
- The package linux-image-powerpc64le-64k has been added for builds for the ppc64el architecture.
- Udeb cleanup has been conducted to reduce the size of the installation images.
- The Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.12.38+deb13.
- Improvements have been made to the images generated by the depthcharge tooling.
- Systematic copying of firmware files that are embedded in the initramfs of the installer has been removed from the hw-detect scripts.
