The release of the lightweight window manager IceWM 3.9.0 is now available. IceWM offers full management via keyboard shortcuts, support for virtual desktops, taskbars, and application menus, and allows for window grouping using tabs. The window manager can be configured through a fairly simple configuration file, and themes can be applied. Support for tabbed window organization is available. Built-in applets for monitoring CPU, memory, and traffic are provided. Several third-party GUIs for customization, desktop implementations, and menu editors are also being developed. The code is written in C++ and is distributed under the GPLv2 license.
The new version adds support for cursor theme customization. In addition to XPM cursors, support for cursor images in the Xcursor format has been introduced. For themes that do not specify a cursor image, the cursor from the system Xcursor theme is used. Cursor image loading utilizes gdk-pixbuf functions without relying on the libXpm library. The libXcursor library has been added to the list of dependencies, while the dependency on libXpm has been removed. An option ‘-kovered’ has been added to the icesh utility for filtering windows covered by other windows.
