The release of the T2 SDE 25.10 meta-distribution has been published, providing an environment for creating custom distributions, cross-compilation, and keeping package versions up to date. Among popular distributions built on the T2 system, Puppy Linux stands out. The project offers 36 bootable ISO images with minimal graphical environments available with Musl, uClibc, and Glibc libraries. Builds with graphical environments based on GNOME and Wayland are prepared for current architectures.
The platform focuses on creating builds based on the Linux kernel, but prototypes are separately developed to build packages for various operating systems, including macOS, Haiku, and BSD systems. Plans include supporting the creation of environments based on other kernels, such as L4, Fuchsia, and RedoxOS, as well as building for Android (AOSP). More than 7,000 packages are available for building.
T2 supports 20 hardware architectures used in both modern embedded systems and older equipment. For example, support is provided for gaming consoles like Nintendo Wii U and Sony PS3, as well as workstations from SGI, Sun, and HP. Most architectures can boot in environments with 128 MB of RAM. Pre-built images are available for architectures Alpha, Arc, ARM64, HPPA64, IA64, Loongarch64, M68k, Microblaze, MIPS64, Nios2, OpenRISC, PowerPC 64, RISC-V 64, s390x, SPARC 64, SuperH, i486, i686, i786, x86-64, and x32.
Among the changes in the new version:
- An i786 build has been added, incorporating optimizations that utilize SSE2 instructions.
- Support for Qualcomm X1-Elite ARM64 SoC has been added.
- The halt command now stops the system and returns control to OpenFirmware. To shut down, the poweroff command should be used.
- The mesa-legacy package has been added, providing support for older GPUs.
- Issues with Firefox and Thunderbird on most 32-bit and big-endian RISC systems have been resolved.
- The iproute2 VLAN functionality is operational in builds with LTO optimizations enabled.
- 527 packages or new features have been added, 7638 packages updated, and 229 packages removed. The Linux kernel has been updated to 6.16, GCC to 15.2, LLVM/Clang to 20.1.8, Glibc to 2.42, Musl to 1.2.5, uClibC to 1.0.54, and Mesa to 25.1.9.
