Release UDisks 2.11.0 with revamped ATA SMART support.

After two years of development, the release of UDisks 2.11.0 has been published, which includes a system background process, libraries, and tools for organizing access and management of disks, storage devices, and related technologies. UDisks provides a D-Bus API for working with disk partitions, configuring MD RAID, handling block devices in files (loop mounting), manipulating file systems, etc. Additionally, modules are provided for monitoring and managing BTRFS, iSCSI, libStorageManagement, LVM2, and LVM Cache. For instance, UDisks is used in GNOME applications to work with GNOME disk partitions and various graphical configurators.

In the new version:

  • Support for ATA SMART technology has been redesigned. Drive diagnostics operations using ATA SMART have been moved to the libblockdev library, which implements two plugins: one based on the libatasmart library (default) and the other based on the smartmontools toolkit (experimental). The code for tracking drive temperature has been refined and an additional layer for checking SMART attributes has been added.
  • An assembly option "—disable-smart" has been added to disable the drive diagnostics code using ATA SMART. For selectively disabling ATA SMART in relation to drivers, the udev property ID_ATA_SMART_ACCESS is available.
  • Flags reflecting the capabilities of the ATA subsystem are now mainly extracted using udev.
  • New methods have been added to the API: Manager.GetDrives(), Block.RestoreEncryptedHeader(), Encrypted.Convert(), Encrypted.HeaderBackup(), Filesystem.BTRFS.[Get|Set]DefaultSubvolumeID() and Loop.SetCapacity().
