The composite server Hyprland 0.52 is available, utilizing the Wayland protocol. The project is focused on a tiling window layout but also supports traditional freeform window placement, tabbed window grouping, a pseudo-tiling mode, and fullscreen window expansion. The code is written in C++ and is distributed under the BSD license.
It offers capabilities for creating visually appealing interfaces: gradients in window borders, background blur, animation effects, and shadows. Plugins can be integrated to extend functionality, and an IPC based on sockets is available for external control. Configuration is handled through a configuration file, with changes applied on the fly without requiring a restart. Notable features also include: dynamically created virtual desktops; layout modes for elements on the screen; global hotkey handling; gesture control on the touchpad/touch screen.
In the new version:
- Support for automatic deactivation of submap (a set of event mapping bindings in the window) has been added after the keybind is executed.
- An IPC command ‘/dispatch forceidle’ is introduced, allowing users to forcefully set an idle state for a specified number of seconds by resetting all ext-idle-notify timers.
- An IPC command ‘/dispatch fullscreen x y [set|unset|toggle]’ has been added to activate and deactivate fullscreen mode.
- Settings for working with monitors supporting color spaces DCIP3, dp3 (Apple P3), and Adobe have been added.
- The ability to set tablet rotation mode (which changes the X and Y coordinates upon orientation change) for each input device supporting such capability has been introduced.
- The layer rule (settings related to a specific window placement layer) has been enhanced with the ‘noscreenshare’ option to prevent the layer from displaying while sharing the screen.
- A setting ‘cursor:zoom_disable_aa’ has been added to control the cursor display (pixelation or blur) when zooming.
- The window rules have been updated with the ‘modal’ property to create modal windows that block interaction with other application windows.
Additionally, early releases of the Hyprtoolkit toolkit, developed by the Hyprland developers for creating graphical interfaces in C++, natively supporting Wayland, can be noted. Hyprtoolkit features a simple C++ API for building graphical applications, built-in support for animation effects, integration with Wayland, and an simplified theming system.
