The release of the Easyeffects 8.0.0 project (formerly known as PulseEffects) has been published, developing a collection of plugins for PipeWire, a system service and graphical interface featuring an equalizer, spectrum analyzer, and various sound effects that allow you to limit maximum volume, reduce dynamic range, balance volume levels, filter specific frequencies, and eliminate noise. Effects can be applied to individual applications. The project's code is written in C++ and distributed under the GPLv3 license.
Key changes:
- The user interface has been transitioned from GTK4 to using the Qt library, QML language, and Kirigami frameworks from the KDE project. The Qt Graphs module is used to render the spectrogram.
- An applet with a menu for selecting presets from the system tray has been implemented.
- The interface has been adapted for use on small screens;
- It ensures the last selected plugin or tab is remembered and restored after a restart.
- The presets window has been transformed into a tab that also displays the current pathways of audio streams to the selected input and output devices.
- The ability to define a fallback profile has been added for sound cards and microphones for which a primary automatically loaded profile has not been selected.
- The options for renaming and backing up presets have been added.
- The capabilities of many plugins have been expanded and compatibility with plugins from the LSP (Linux Studio Plugins) project has been improved.
