The release of Tribblix 38, based on the developments of the Illumos project, which continues to advance the kernel, networking stack, file systems, drivers, libraries, and basic set of system utilities from OpenSolaris, has been published. The project aims to maintain the classic retro style of Solaris while using modern software versions. The kernel and command-line tools are borrowed from Illumos, while everything else is rebuilt using its own build system. SVR4 packages are used for distributing software. For graphical environments, Xfce, MATE, and Enlightenment are offered. Ready builds are created for x86_64 systems.
Among the changes in the new version:
- By default, the 'zap install' command includes dependency installation.
- The 'zap create-user' command ensures 0700 permissions for home directories (to override, use the '-M' flag).
- Support for UFS quotas has been discontinued.
- The tools for the Go language have been updated to version 1.25.
- A new release of Python 3.12.12 has been deployed. Many modules for Python have been updated.
- Synchronized with pkgsrc 20240116.
