The release of the specialized Tails 7.2 distribution (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) has been announced, developed as part of the Tor project. The distribution is based on Debian 13, comes with the GNOME 48 desktop environment, and is designed for anonymous network access using the Tor toolkit. All connections, except traffic through the Tor network, are blocked by the packet filter by default. User data is encrypted between sessions. An ISO image capable of running in Live mode, with a size of 2 GB, is prepared for download.
In the new version:
- Tor Browser has been updated to version 15.0, which transitions to the Firefox 140 ESR codebase, adds support for tab grouping, vertical tab placement, navigation through bookmarks from the sidebar, and a unified search button in the address bar.
- The Thunderbird email client has been updated to version 140.4.0. Changes were made to exclude Thunderbird from connecting to Mozilla's telemetry collection services.
- The Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.12.57.
- The root console startup has been removed. Instead of opening the root console to execute commands with root privileges, the 'sudo -i' utility should now be used.
