The release of 4MLinux 50.0 is available, a minimalist user distribution that is not a derivative of other projects and uses a graphical environment based on the JWM window manager. 4MLinux can be used both as a Live environment for playing multimedia files and solving user tasks, as well as a recovery system and a platform for launching mini-servers. A live image (x86_64, 1.9 GB) with a graphical environment and a stripped-down console build (x86_64, 16.2 MB) are prepared for download.
In the new version:
- Updated package versions: Mesa 25.1.7, BusyBox 1.37.0, Perl 5.42.0, Python 3.13.8, Ruby 3.4.7.
- Updated user applications: LibreOffice 25.8, AbiWord 3.0.6, GIMP 3.1.4, Gnumeric 1.12.59, Firefox 145.0, Chrome 142.0, Thunderbird 140.5, Audacious 4.5.1, VLC 3.0.21, SMPlayer 25.6.0.
- Improved support for webcams, including the Zbar barcode scanner and V4L2 Viewer for camera output.
- Added the EmelFM2 file manager.
- Added the game uHexen2, based on the Hexen II code. The 4MLinux Game Pack now includes the 3D Tetris BlockOut II and a set of card games PySol.
- A downloadable add-on featuring the multimedia framework GPAC has been added.
- Provided the ability to reproduce the 4MLinux build from source code.
