Oracle has published the release of Solaris Operating System 11.4 SRU 87 (Support Repository Update), which offers a series of significant changes and improvements for the Solaris 11.4 branch. To install the fixes suggested in the update, simply execute the command ‘pkg update’. Users can also take advantage of the free edition of Solaris 11.4 CBE (Common Build Environment), developed using a continuous publishing model for new versions.
Among the changes in the new version:
- Firefox and Thunderbird have been updated to the ESR branch 140 (previously branch 128).
- The package includes a set of GCC compilers 15.2. Updated versions of GCC 12.5.0 and 13.4.0.
- Versions of the following programs have been updated: BIND 9.18.41, 7-Zip 25.01, git 2.50.1, golang 1.25.3, openssl 3.0.18, sudo 1.9.17p1, suricata 7.0.11, vim 9.1.1591, babel 2.17.0, flac 1.5.0, libjpeg 9f, openldap 2.6.10, rust 1.87.0, wxwidgets 3.2.8.1, and xorg-server 21.1.18.
- The useradd utility has been enhanced with the ‘-N’ option to activate accounts without needing a separate run of the ‘passwd -N’ utility or providing a password. An additional ‘-U’ option has been added to transition an account into an unactivated state (UP). In the UP state, the user's access to the system is forbidden even when connecting without a password via SSH key.
- Support for enabling has been added to the sxadm utility. protection against microarchitectural attacks TSA (Transient Scheduler Attack) on AMD CPU.
- The fmthard utility has added the ‘-c’ (clear) option to clear MBR, VTOC, and GPT/EFI partition labels, as well as the ‘-e’ (GPT/EFI) option to force the saving of the GPT/EFI label instead of VTOC.

- The zoneadm command now supports isolated zone images in the form of flar archives compressed with gzip/bzip2 (for example: ‘zoneadm -z s10z install -u -a /root/s10u11-x86.flar.bz2’).
- The MDB debugger has added support for outputting annotations by type and setting array sizes.
- A package pkg:/system/management/oracle-cloud-agent has been added with gomon (performance monitoring) and runcommand plugins for the Oracle Cloud Agent.
