The company "Bazalt SPO" has released Simply Linux 11.1, built on the 11th ALT platform. The distribution represents a user-friendly and resource-light system with a classic desktop based on Xfce, providing full localization of the interface and most applications. The product is distributed under a license agreement that does not transfer the right to distribute the distribution but allows unrestricted use of the system by individuals and legal entities. The builds are prepared for x86_64 and Aarch64 architectures.
Key changes in Simply Linux 11.1:
- New package versions have been implemented: Linux kernel 6.12.61, Mesa 25.1.9, PortProton 1.7.3, Chromium 142, Systemd 257.9, X.org Server 21.1.20, Thunderbird 145.0, Audacious 4.5.1, VLC 3.0.22, NVIDIA drivers 470 and 580.
- The login screen design (LightDM) has been updated.
- Xfce desktop environment settings have been modified: key combinations have been unified with other distributions (for example, Ctrl+Alt+T to launch the terminal), system event sounds are enabled by default, the application menu has been styled for consistency, file search through the application menu has been restored, the Papirus-Light (default) and Papirus-Dark themes have been added. In the Whisker application menu, corners have been rounded and a transparent background has been added. Window shadows have been enabled. The taskbar transparency has been reduced. The visibility of icon selection on the desktop has been enhanced.
- The Mugshot utility has been included to customize the avatar, username, and contact information displayed in the application menu and on the login and lock screens.
- A background process, power-profiles-daemon, has been implemented for power management, and a selection of profiles has been added: "balanced" (default), "power saving," and "performance."
- For outdated NVIDIA graphics cards, the open-source nouveau driver has been added (disabled by default).
- The Vulkan driver vulkan-amdgpu for AMD graphics cards has been replaced with the RADV driver from Mesa.
- The audio mixer pavucontrol has been replaced with pwvucontrol, which works better with PipeWire.
- The installer has a new background image and an added notification about automatic restart on the final installation step.
- Permissions have been changed for home directories, now preventing other users from viewing the contents. Shared access can be provided through the "Shares" plugin in the Thunar file manager.
