Developers of GNU/Hurd have reported significant progress in the development of the operating system. According to Samuel Thibault, one of the key developers of the project, GNU/Hurd has achieved substantial improvements in device driver support due to integration with NetBSD’s rump layer.
Additionally, support for SMP (Symmetric Multi-Processing) has been enhanced, allowing the system to utilize modern multi-core processors more efficiently. The port for x86_64 is nearly complete, and there is hope for AArch64 support.
Several distributions have already been created based on GNU/Hurd, including Debian GNU/Hurd, Guix/Hurd, and Alpine/Hurd. According to the developers, about 75% of Debian packages are already being built for GNU/Hurd, indicating a high degree of system readiness.
Support for Rust ecosystem has also been added, which became necessary due to the growing number of programs requiring this support.
