The project enhances tools for parsing and analyzing grammar, semantics, types, data models, and functions for SQL language and the GoogleSQL dialect. The GoogleSQL dialect is notable for its ability to combine queries using unnamed channels (pipes) and is utilized across various Google products and services, including BigQuery, Spanner, F1, BigTable, Dremel, and Procella. The project’s code is written in C++ and is distributed under the Apache 2.0 license.
The reason for the renaming is to unify under a single brand the name of the SQL dialect developed by Google and related libraries for parsing and analysis. It is anticipated that renaming ZetaSQL to GoogleSQL will reduce confusion and simplify the search for materials related to GoogleSQL technology. The open source repository for ZetaSQL will continue to be developed by the same team, but under the name GoogleSQL.
