On January 31, after a year of development, a new release of ScummVM took place — a collection of newly created game engines originally developed to run games from LucasArts that use the SCUMM system. Thanks to a thoughtful architecture, ScummVM also supports many non-SCUMM games from companies like Revolution Software and Adventure Soft, for which custom resource interaction interfaces have been developed.
According to the developer, this is the largest release ever in terms of new features and engines. Twelve new engines and around 194 supported games have been added.
Among the games now supported by ScummVM, the developer highlights:
- Dark Seed
- God of Thunder
- The Adventures of Willy Beamish
- Heart of China
- Nancy Drew: Secret of the Scarlet Hand
- Nancy Drew: Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake
- Ripley’s Believe It or Not!: The Riddle of Master Lu
- The Flea with the Golden Nose
- The Pilot Brothers: The Other Side of the Earth
- The Pilot Brothers 3D: The Case of Garden Pests
- The Pilot Brothers 3D: Secrets of the Dog Lovers Club
- Features of National Fishing
- Mom, Don't Worry
- The Agency "Cat-Dog": Following the Tracks of Unseen Beasts
- The Agency "Cat-Dog": Dr. Krysardi's Island
- Out of this World (Another World)
- games on the SLUDGE engine
- Adibou 2: Nature & Sciences
- games on the WAGE engine
- Penumbra: Overture
- Tex Murphy: Martian Memorandum
- Mort & Phil: A Movie Adventure (Special Edition)
- Trick or Treat
- Hodj ‘n’ Podj
- The Last Express
- and many others…
Improvements were made to many existing engines, such as SCUMM, Private Eye, Stark, and others.
The complete list of supported games, as always, can be viewed on the website.
In addition to game support, significant improvements have been noted in the speech synthesizer (Text-to-Speech) and Keymapper, a multitude of localizations have been added, and bugs have been fixed. There is now support for building with SDL3, scaling shaders for 3D games, and major enhancements in the ports for Android, iOS, and Atari.
