The release of the multimedia server pipewire 1.6.0 has been announced. The new version is API and ABI compatible with the previous 1.4.x branch.
Key Changes:
- a decoder has been added LDAC (used in Bluetooth);
- to hide Bluetooth packet loss, it now uses SpanDSP;
- PODs are now safely parsed and allocated in shared memory;
- node commands and events can now contain additional user data;
- support for changing the maximum number of channels (which is now set to 128 by default) at compile time has been added;
- there is now a configuration for audio channel layout – you can use the option "audio.layout" = "5.1" instead of the more cumbersome audio.position = [ FL, FR, FC, LFE, SL, SR ];
- support for 'Capability Params' has been added, which can be used to negotiate capabilities by reference before matching format and buffer capabilities;
- there are now more HDR color types;
- the cycles now have priority inversion locking. Most of the code has been adapted to use faster (compared to epoll/eventfd) locks for updating the overall state;
- the channel position is now parsed from EDID;
- channel maps are now set in ALSA;
- the resampler now supports configurable window functions, such as Blackman and Kaiser, and for phase accuracy, they are computed in fixed-point numbers;
- the filter graph now supports ffmpeg plugins and ONNX neural network models (for example, Silero models for voice activity detection);
- support for clients with protocol v0 has been discontinued;
- the jack-tunnel module can now automatically connect ports;
- downward API support (simultaneously with this in ROC multi-track layouts are now used;
- it is now possible to configure to reset the stream on fork call, although jack clients expect this to be disabled;
- pw-cat supports sysex and midiclip just like uncompressed formats, and options have been added to set codec and container formats as well as the list of supported containers, codecs, layouts, and channel names.
