Gentoo has created a mirror of the ebuild repository on Codeberg as an alternative to GitHub. There are plans to migrate all other repositories as well. Pull requests are accepted, and forking is not required. The main repository remains on Gentoo's own servers, and repositories from GitHub are not being deleted.
Codeberg uses the open engine Forgejo, supported by a non-profit organization located in Berlin, Germany.
The desire to migrate from GitHub is explained by the imposition of CoPilot.
