A stable release of the operating system for routers and small network devices OpenWrt 25.12 has been released with significant changes:
- the package manager has been replaced with apk (Alpine Package Keeper), the outdated opkg has been excluded due to prolonged stagnation in its development;
- integration of attended sysupgrade (ASU) — a mechanism for updating the entire operating system independently while preserving packages and settings;
- saving shell history in temporary memory tmpfs until reboot;
- integration of a package repository with a video feed — applications with a graphical interface;
- wi-fi scripts have been rewritten in the custom scripting language ucode (a dialect of 'ECMAScript'), gradually replacing lua in OpenWrt development.

Upgrading from the previous stable version 24.10 is supported for most devices and configurations. The majority of configurations will remain unchanged, and those requiring configuration adjustments will be automatically transitioned during the first boot of the new version.
