Last month, the free (AGPLv3) microkernel OS (or rather, a generalized framework for building such systems) Genode delighted us with the release of version 26.02:
- migration of the repository to Codeberg from Github;
- update of Linux DDE (Device Driver Environment) to 6.18 LTS;
- disabling the tracker blocking SDL3;
- disabling the tracker blocking GSS Spec in Goa;
- a flurry of minor changes and improvements.
This project allows you to assemble an OS using one of the supported microkernels, a set of device drivers (from GNU/Linux), a motherboard, numerous native components, and ported software (via Goa), by describing the configuration for how everything interacts using the aforementioned HID (previously XML was used, which caused quite an uproar in the swamps 🙂
The reference build from the authors is called Sculpt and lives in its own release cycle. According to them, there are people on our planet who use it as their main everyday OS.
