Google has announced the launch of the 'Personal Intelligence' feature for free users. Previously, this capability was only available to subscribers of paid Google AI plans. The technology is now being integrated into the Gemini app, the Chrome browser through the web version of Gemini, and the new AI Mode.
The essence of the update is that artificial intelligence learns to use the user's personal data to generate responses without requiring detailed clarifications in the query. The system analyzes information from the Google ecosystem: Workspace (including Gmail, Calendar, and Drive), Google Photos, YouTube, Google Maps, and Search. Furthermore, as specified by 9to5Google, the AI processes text, photos, and videos to understand the account owner's preferences and tailor responses for the user.
Examples of the system's operation include several scenarios. Users can receive help in troubleshooting technical issues, even if they do not remember the exact name of the purchased product: simply describe the malfunction, and the system will suggest debugging steps such as rebooting or resetting, identifying the exact device model from purchase receipts.
On long trips, the feature will help navigate, for instance, during layovers: it will automatically indicate boarding gates, suggest food options considering the user's tastes, and calculate remaining time until departure. Custom routes can also be created instead of standard 'top-10' lists — with recommendations for local attractions based on past interests.
The rollout of the feature for free users of the Gemini app and Gemini in Chrome will begin in the United States. A personal Google account will be required for operation, and users must manually enable the feature. Additionally, users will be able to disable access to specific applications, and a corresponding section will appear in the account menu — 'Personal Intelligence.'
