The organization CZ.NIC, which is the registrar for the Czech top-level domain CZ and the developer of the open-source DNS server Knot, has introduced the Turris Omnia NG Wired router. Built on the same platform as the wireless Turris Omnia NG released last year, it serves as a cost-effective alternative. This new device is designed for use in server rooms, has a rack-mount form factor, and is equipped with 2 Ethernet ports 10G SFP+ and 4 ports 2.5G RJ45. Like the previous model, the new router features silent passive cooling and offers three M.2 slots, which can be used to connect a Wi-Fi module, NVMe storage, and a 4G/5G modem. It also includes a color screen with a resolution of 240 × 240, which can be used to display statistics, notifications, and monitoring information. The hardware specifications include a 4-core CPU Qualcomm IPQ 9574 (ARMv8 Cortex A-73, 2.2 GHz), 2 GB RAM, 8 GB eMMC, 2 ports 10 Gbps (SFP+), 4 × 2.5 Gbps (RJ45), 3 M.2 slots (PCI Express 3.0 2x), and 2 USB 3.0 ports. Optional Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 modules can be connected to turn the device into a wireless access point.
The firmware uses a proprietary branch of the open-source OpenWRT platform, supplied under the name Turris OS.
