The Basalt SPo company has introduced the mobile platform ALT Mobile 11.0 ("Alt Mobile"), designed for smartphones, tablets, and embedded devices with touchscreens, such as barcode scanners, cash registers, and data collection terminals. The platform is built on the package base of the Sisyphus repository (p11) and is equipped with the Phosh graphical interface, based on GNOME technologies and using the Phoc compositing server.
Images for the x86_64 and ARM64 architectures have been prepared for download, which can be used for installation on devices like PinePhone, PinePhone Pro, PineTab 2, and "MIG" tablets (on the x86-64 architecture), as well as for running in QEMU. The platform has also been ported to work on gaming consoles from Anbernic, PowKiddy, and Retroid based on Rockchip, Allwinner, and Qualcomm SoCs.
The downloaded version can only be used freely by individuals, including individual entrepreneurs. Commercial and governmental organizations can download and test the platform, but to operate it permanently within their corporate infrastructure, legal entities need to acquire licenses or enter into written licensing agreements. The development of ALT Mobile is carried out in accordance with the principles of free software, and the codebase is fully open.
The platform supports multi-user system operation, with the Phrog login manager facilitating switching between users. If necessary, Waydroid and Wine can be used to run applications built for Android and Windows, as well as to open a terminal emulator for command line work. Full disk encryption based on LUKS is supported.
When connecting a mobile device to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, the platform allows the system to be used as a full-fledged workstation with a GNOME-like environment. It is possible to install applications available in the repositories for desktop editions of ALT Linux, as well as packages in flatpak format.
