Vivo has officially unveiled its new flagship camera phone, the X300 Ultra, in China. According to Android Authority, the device is set to elevate standards in smartphone videography. Vivo confirmed that the smartphone will also be available in international markets later.
The Vivo X300 Ultra is marketed as a camera phone capable of competing with the iPhone in the area of videography. But first, let's start with the basic specifications. The device is powered by the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and offers either 12 or 16 GB of RAM, as well as storage options ranging from 256 GB to 1 TB. The smartphone features a 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 3168 × 1440 pixels and a refresh rate of 144 Hz.
The new model is also equipped with a 6600 mAh battery. In an interview with Android Authority, Vivo confirmed that the international version will offer the same battery capacity. This is good news. For comparison, the Chinese version of the Vivo X300 Pro is equipped with a 6510 mAh battery, but in most EMEA markets, a model with a 5440 mAh battery is released. The Vivo X300 Ultra comes with a bundled 100 W charger and supports wireless charging at 40 W. The smartphone is rated for water and dust resistance according to IP68 + IP69 standards.
The new Vivo smartphone is focused on enhancing photo quality. It boasts an impressive rear camera system. The setup includes a 200-megapixel main camera based on a 1/1.12-inch Sony LYT-901 sensor. This is larger than all previous 200 MP cameras, including the main camera of the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Like last year’s Ultra model, the main camera of the X300 Ultra has a focal length of 35 mm. The stabilization has a CIPA rating of 6.5. In comparison, the main camera of the X300 Pro has a CIPA rating of 5.5. The main camera's lens features a new hybrid design with 1G+6P (one glass and six plastic elements) with proprietary coating, which Vivo claims reduces reflections by 20%.
Last year’s Vivo X200 Ultra stood out due to its 50 MP ultra-wide camera LYT-818 (sensor size 1/1.28 inches). This year, Vivo is sticking to the same ultra-wide configuration. However, the manufacturer claims that the camera has improved stabilization, which received a CIPA rating of 6.0 for its stable shooting capabilities in motion.
The 85 mm periscope telephoto lens has retained a format of 1/1.4 inches and a resolution of 200 MP, but has switched to the updated Samsung ISOCELL HP0 sensor. According to the manufacturer, the autofocus speed has doubled — to 60 updates per second. It features a new Gimbal-Grade OIS stabilization system with a correction angle of 3°, which Vivo claims corresponds to a CIPA rating of 7.0. In comparison, standard telephoto lenses in smartphones compensate for 0.7–1°, while the Vivo X200 Ultra provided 1.2°.
All three cameras of the X300 Ultra have optical stabilization when recording video at all focal lengths. It is most effective on the telephoto lens. The smartphone supports 3D LUT import — three-dimensional color grading tables that allow for instant application of pre-set color styles. Shooting is conducted in multi-focal 4K mode at 120 frames per second, with 10-bit color and recording in logarithmic format. Vivo's logarithmic format is compatible with the professional ACES post-processing workflow. Vivo has created a new Photography App for shooting, which includes a built-in library of 3D LUTs for various color styles. The app also features a Multi-Focal 4K Master Color Video function — Vivo's own color pipeline.
At the core of the new color science is a 50-megapixel True Color Lens sensor with 12 spectral channels, providing pixel-by-pixel accuracy in color rendering and tonal transitions. The Smooth EV algorithm intelligently processes multi-frame HDR data: it maintains details in highlights and protects tonal transitions. The final image can be customized — from cinematic film styles to rich colors.
The front camera of the device features a 50 MP sensor measuring 1/2.76 inches. The camera is equipped with autofocus and can shoot video in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.
To work with the 200-megapixel telephoto lens, Vivo has introduced two new teleconverters. The first is a 400 mm with a 17.4x magnification, called the 'Cannon 400'. The second is a compact 200 mm with an 8.7x magnification, named 'Lipstick 200'.
The manufacturer has also released a new shooting kit, the Vivo Imaging Grip Kit. It is a professional cage-style rig created in partnership with SmallRig. The accessory includes several cold shoe mounts, quick access ports, physical buttons for zoom and shutter control, as well as a built-in cooling fan for extended video shooting.
Vivo announced that the price for the X300 Ultra starts at 6999 yuan (about $1013) for the base model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The maximum configuration with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage is priced at 8999 yuan (about $1302). The 1TB version supports satellite communication. A configuration of the X300 Ultra with 16GB/1TB along with photography accessories will be available for 11,999 yuan (around $1736). The X300 Ultra will be available in green, silver, and black colors, with sales in China starting April 3.
