On March 30, 2026, yet another release of the library popular among users of linux.org.ru quietly and unnoticed came out. The main changes from the changelog are characterized as follows:
- An extensive code refactoring was carried out using the AI model Claude Opus 5.6
- Some of the modules have been rewritten in Rust
- Deprecated APIs for summoning ancient gods have been removed (see issue #666)
- Thanks to collaboration with Marvel Entertainment, support for multiverses has significantly improved
- When initializing libastral_context_t, dates before the Big Bang and after the heat death can now be passed
- A number of improvements have been made to the built-in stack for encapsulating the IP protocol (IP-over-Astral) — thanks to which, in particular, RTT when using the ping utility can now accept negative values
- A dangerous bug related to memory corruption during race conditions between threads has been fixed, which in some situations could cause time/space distortions with subsequent incursions of hostile entities from the immaterium into the material universe. However, the authors claim such occurrences are highly unlikely and currently unknown.
It is worth noting that in connection with the last point, OpenAstral Foundation strongly urges all astral coders to update right now, without waiting for updates in Debian and/or the arrival of entities from the immaterium:
git clone astral://universe/b1e96e74-2d9d-11f1-8fe3-37c54b8796a4/20260401/libastral.git cmake . && make sudo make install
