I don't know who will need this, but it made me happy. As an old VMS user, I couldn't pass this by. The OpenVMS Software company, which acquired the rights to OpenVMS and is currently continuing the development of this OS for x86, has released a developer toolkit for VMS for Linux. It installs on Linux/X86-64 and Windows/WSL.
VMS/XDE is a set of compilers and libraries that are natively executable on Linux, allowing the compilation and execution of files that are binary and programmatically compatible with VMS.
VMS/XDE is not an emulator; system calls are translated natively into Linux calls. In this respect, its direct analogy is Wine with a set of cross-compilers.
The developers do not recommend using the resulting binary files in production, as the runtime environment has several limitations. However, modules compiled on Linux run on VMS without recompilation.
This is intended for those who wish to develop for VMS in an environment familiar to them.
And yes, this is paid and requires a license.
