Red Hat has introduced a new paid extended support program called "Extended Life Cycle, Premium," which will provide a 14-year support cycle for the branches of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8/9/10 distribution: 5 years of full production of public updates + 5 years of public updates addressing critical bugs and vulnerabilities (without adding new features or extending hardware support) + 4 years of updates focused on critical issues for paid subscribers.
Previously, 4 years of additional paid support was offered for the RHEL 7 release; now this practice is declared for RHEL 8/9/10 releases. A key feature of the "Extended Life Cycle, Premium" program is the extension of the time for the additional publication of updates for intermediate releases (sub-releases RHEL 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, etc.). Vulnerability updates with a CVSS danger level of 7 and above, as well as the correction of serious errors for intermediate branches will now be released over 6 years (previously 2 years of Extended Update plus another 2 years under a separate Extended Update subscription), which will reduce the transition operations to new intermediate releases in systems that support continuously running critical services.
Long-term support for intermediate releases will be provided through release cycles. For example, extended updates for the May release of RHEL 10.2 will be provided until May 2032, for the November RHEL 10.3 release until May 2027, and for the May RHEL 10.4 release until May 2033. The RHEL 10 branch will be supported until 2039, the RHEL 9 branch until 2036, and the RHEL 8 branch until 2033.
As for other distributions, SUSE Linux is supported for 16 years, Ubuntu for 15 years, Debian GNU/Linux is supported for 10 years (5 years LTS + 5 years Extended LTS), openSUSE for 2 years, and Fedora Linux for 13 months.
