The ambitious underwater survival simulator Subnautica 2 from the developers at the American studio Unknown Worlds Entertainment has lost its publisher shortly before diving into early access.

Until recently, the publisher of Subnautica 2 on all target platforms was the South Korean company Krafton, which has owned Unknown Worlds Entertainment since 2021.
How noted marketing expert Michael Futter on his microblog, recently the publisher of Subnautica 2 Steam became the developer studio itself — mention of Krafton has disappeared from this field.
According to a record in the database SteamDB, the switch happened last week, but only attracted public attention now. Following Steam, a similar change occurred in Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store.
What exactly is behind the change of publisher for Subnautica 2 is unclear. Unknown Worlds still belongs to Krafton, although a court mandated the latter to return control of the studio and the game to the dismissed president Ted Gill.
Since then the current leader of Unknown Worlds, Steve Papoutsis reported, stated that Subnautica 2 will be ready for early access by May — Ted Gill's lawyers were not pleased with such autonomy from Krafton. disliked.
Subnautica 2 is being created for PC (Steam, EGS, Microsoft Store), Xbox Series X and S, as well as Game Pass. They promise co-op for four players, a new alien world, horrors of the depths, graphics on the Unreal Engine 5, and text translation into Russian.
